Meaningful work, pay is very fairIf you're looking to climb some corporate ladder, this is not the place to work. Modest Needs is a nonprofit with an earnest, intelligent, hardworking staff dedicated to helping others stay self-sufficient.
Of course some times of the year are busier than others, but a caring employee can always find ways to spread the word about this BBB top-rated nonprofit doing good in the U.S. - assisting those who work paycheck-to-paycheck (and veterans) by proving grants to help them bridge the gap when they are faced with an unexpected or emergency financial crisis. Modest Needs is often someone's last chance before they enter the cycle of poverty. Of those assisted, 64% give back by becoming donors themselves. I love being able to go to sleep at night knowing I have done something good for others - neighbors who are in situations any of us could encounter. I am proud and pleased to work for Modest Needs! |

Poor pay without much opportunities for a raiseYou can describe Modest Needs Foundation like this: poor pay without much opportunities for a raise, part-time, not enough work or too much work, no opportunity for growth, not sustainable, poor management, poor retention of staff, no long-term goals for staff, constant change in policies, mismanagement of operational costs, inconsistencies, unbalanced work environment, ambiguity on part of the CEO. Don't waste your precious time with this company. Modest Needs Foundation are like a stone tight to your neck, they just pull you down in life.
Stay away from this so called organization. |

Terrible employeesI think the hardest part of working for Modest Needs Foundation is the same thing that would be hard about working for any small company, especially a non-profit organization: fund-raising can be very unpredictable. It's usually either feast or famine, so you really have to trust that management knows what they're doing to keep from worrying that you won't get paid if the company has a bad month. That's really not Modest Needs' fault, and in my entire time there, no matter how bleak things looked in the short term, the company was always able to fulfill its obligations, but some employees were constantly worried that they wouldn't get paid, etc. and that made the work environment a little more tense than I think it ought to have been. I also think the CEO was sometimes too nice and allowed employees who were not very good at their jobs or who just didn't care to stay on long after I would've let them go. My biggest problem at Modest Needs was having to work with people who actually thought they were doing the company a favor to work there, when really, it was the other way around.
